Ultherapy: FDA-Approved Non-Invasive Skin Lifting and Tightening Treatment in Singapore
What is Ultherapy™?
Ultherapy is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses focused ultrasound to lift, tone and tighten loose skin on the brow, neck, chin and décolletage. It is the only non-invasive procedure cleared by FDA to lift the skin on the brow, neck, chin, and décolletage.
As the treatment is non-invasive in nature, there is no downtime after the treatment. Although you may not see any radical, obvious improvement immediately after the treatment, it stimulates the production of collagen. Over the next few months, gradual tightening occurs, resulting in lifting of the face and tightening of the skin – naturally.
Why is Ultherapy™ such a unique skin lifting treatment?
Ultherapy™ has revolutionalised the way we treat sagging skin in Singapore. Using medical-grade high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), the procedure targets the deep layers of the skin under the fat layer (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System, or SMAS) to produce skin contraction for lifting, and collagen production for long term anti-aging effects. Ultherapy is good for skin lifting because it penetrates much deeper into the skin, stimulating collagen production. This is what has led to it increasingly becoming the procedure of choice for face lifts in Singapore and all across the rest of Asia.
Ultherapy has clinically proven benefits that include:
- No downtime
- Ultrasound imaging that provides real-time monitoring of treatment process
- Convenient and fast – One-time treatment of about 60 minutes
- Visible long-lasting results after one procedure
How does Ultherapy™ work?
Unlike other skin lifting treatments such as thread lift, toxin, and dermal fillers, Ultherapy bypasses superficial skin to deliver the right amount of ultrasound energy at controlled depths and at the right, consistent temperature.
By heating the tissue to 60-70°C, it triggers the area to stimulate new collagen growth as it has been proven that collagen growth happens at around that temperature. The ultrasound energy activates the area to commence the regenerative process to produce new collagen in the treated area.
In addition, Ultherapy uses real-time ultrasound imaging to allow the doctor to see the layers of tissue they are treating. The visualisation enables the doctor to know exactly the layer he is treating to ensure the energy is safely delivered to where it will be the most beneficial.
Delivering controlled, consistent heat of 60-70°C, Ultherapy results in immediate tissue contraction at the same depth of a surgical facelift.
Undergo A See, Plan, Treat Protocol For Your Treatment
We pride ourselves on taking a systematic approach in treating your skin with Ultherapy using a See, Plan, Treat protocol so that we will always achieve the best skin lifting outcome for you.
SEE During the initial consultation with the doctor, your doctor will first assess your skin to understand your skin texture and also find out what your areas of concern are. The doctor will then proceed to scan your skin with a ultrasound transducer to evaluate your skin thickness on various parts of your face. This is an important and necessary step because just like everything else – everybody’s skin is different.
PLAN Your doctor will also provide pain relief medication and topical numbing cream to ensure your treatment is more comfortable. While waiting for the pain relief medication to take effect, your doctor will plan your treatment with a face map, marking out the areas with the number of shots and the specific ultrasound energy level.
TREAT The treatment commences by delivering microfocused ultrasound with visualization to treat the deep tissue planes based on the plan that was customised for you. Depending on which areas of the face, the doctor will closely follow the plan and alternate between 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm transducers to deliver the ultrasound energy. The three different transducers work on different layers of the skin – from superficial layers to deep foundational layers that could only be reached by surgical facelift.
Only by undergoing the See, Plan, Treat protocol, you can be assured that you will get the best skin lifting result with every shot.
Who is a suitable candidate for Ultherapy?
A good candidate for Ultherapy should have mild to moderate skin laxity where the person is starting to experience early signs of aging.
Examples of areas that will benefit from Ultherapy include eyebrows, loose skin on the neck, sagging chin, and lines and wrinkles on the chest.
During the consult, the doctor will assess your skin laxity and recommend the areas that are suitable for treatment using Ultherapy.
What result can I expect?
While Ultherapy does not replace a surgical facelift, it is an excellent option for people who are not willing to undergo surgery. Any surgical procedure carries some level of risks and complications.
The regenerative process begins as soon as the treatment is administered so some subtle lifting may be seen. However, the full effect of the treatment will take about 2-3 months as it takes time to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production.
Although results may vary, patients have reported lifting and toning of the skin, brow elevation for bigger, youthful eyes, skin texture feels tighter and smoother, and skin color is more even.
Any side effects?
Ultherapy is a very safe treatment because it does not break the skin and no foreign object is introduced into the skin like toxin or dermal fillers.
However, the skin is heated up to a consistent temperature of 60-70°C throughout the treatment. The skin may appear flushed immediately after the treatment but it should subside within a few hours.
What is the difference between HIFU and Ultherapy?
As the only FDA-cleared treatment with such remarkable results, it is no wonder there are many copycat machines that try to replicate the technology – but with little success.
There are many HIFU machines that claim that they can achieve the same result as Ultherapy, but at a fraction of the price. These brands are not FDA-cleared and lack adequate clinical studies. Ultherapy has over 50 clinical studies and 40 published peer-reviewed papers. This indicates that Ultherapy has undergone rigorous testing to provide its efficacy and safety.
Copycat machines do not have real-time imaging and the doctors are not able to see clearly the areas to be treated.
Complications may include discomfort during treatment and poor result. In some serious cases, patients have experienced skin burns due to poor development of HIFU machines that led to uncontrolled temperature when administered on patients.
