Pulsed RF Microneedling
Dual-Wave Radiofrequency Microneedling System For Treating Melasma
Dual Wave Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling technology can help to treat skin laxity, stubborn pigmentation and vascular lesions. RF microneedling harnesses benefits of both RF and microneedle to stimulate the release of growth factors by producing controlled micro-injuries and deliver RF into the skin more effectively and accurately. Unlike conventional RF microneedling systems that only have Continuous Wave (CW), Dual Wave RF technology has both CW and Pulsed Wave (PW). In addition, with 8 different modes, treatments can be customised, taking into account the indications, skin conditions, to provide a more effective treatment.
With the system’s 300μm targeted therapy, it addresses the papillary dermis just under the basement membrane. This particular function precisely addresses symptoms of pigmented and/or vascular lesions, strengthens the basement membrane, and increases collagen production, thereby improving overall skin health.
Main Features of Dual Wave RF Microneedles
The microneedles are elaborately manufactured to offer a convenient, effective treatment with minimal downtime.
Here are some main features of its microneedles:
- Wide range of needle depth, raging from 0.3 to 4.0mm;
- Non-insulated microneedles to provide maximal therapeutic effect and is safe from epidermal damage proven to be “Na effect”;
- Microneedles are gold-plated and highly biocompatible;
- 300μm thickness penetrates the skin with minimal resistance while providing high energy transfer to the skin; and
- Smooth insertion of needles minimises pain and reduces bleeding or bruising
What Is Dual Wave And What Does It Do?
Continuous delivery of RF energy causes the skin tissue to coagulate non-selectively around the microneedles.The RF energy is continuously irradiated into the tissue over a preset period of time. The temperature of the skin tissue increases above 60°C. This causes tissue protein denaturation, stimulating the skin to kickstart dermal remodeling. Thus, CW function is suitable for skin rejuvenation, skin tightening, lifting and scar revision. Whereas for PW, energy is irradiated into the skin. It reacts according to the electrical conductivity of each tissue. Tissue reacts selectively in the basement membrane, addressing skin concerns relating to microvascular and small blood vessels.
RF energy is irradiated into the skin in the form of multiple pulses. It increases the temperature of the skin more gradually, between 42 and 45°C. This gradual temperature increase causes protein structural changes within the skin, making it an excellent treatment for pigmented and vascular lesions such as melasma and diffuse skin redness.
What is Melasma?
Dual Wave RF Microneedling selectively breaks down stubborn pigments
Dual Wave RF microneedling is a melasma treatment that selectively targets areas of the skin which lasers previously cannot reach, to break down the abnormal cells in the skin without harming the surrounding healthy skin. Laser toning and many other laser treatments only address the superficial layers of the skin without reaching the deeper layers of the skin where these stubborn pigments originate. Undergoing such laser treatments often only leads to temporary results. In fact, undergoing too many laser treatments may even worsen the skin pigmentation and cause an irreversible mottling of the skin.
Targeted treatment for stubborn skin pigmentation with minimal downtime
With the pulsed RF wave technology, the system gradually increases the temperature of the skin tissues between 42°C and 45°C. In turn, this will cause protein structural change or collagen shrinkage, which promotes the wound healing process and tissue remodeling, which will ultimately help to effectively treat melasma, rosacea, and other stubborn pigmentation.
In addition, it strengthens the basement membrane (in the epidermis), thickens it, and improves overall skin health.
Treating melasma with ease
Melasma pigments are notoriously difficult to treat because they form in multiple layers of the skin. We now also know that melasma is more than just a pigmentary condition. It is also caused by other problems in the skin, such as inflammation, abnormal blood vessels, and a weakened base layer of the epidermis, also known as the basement membrane.
Pulsed RF microneedling system works on several layers of the skin to improve melasma – from the deepest to the most superficial, and targets not only the melanin pigment deposits but also the abnormal blood vessels and basement membrane which aggravate the melasma.
By targeting the root causes of melasma, Pulsed RF microneedling system offers an effective, convenient way to treat this stubborn condition.
Helps to strengthen skin foundation
Other than its capability of treating melasma, Sylfirm X is also designed to improve the health and appearance of the skin by strengthening the basement membrane, which is a layer of skin that sits between the epidermis and the dermis.
The function in Sylfirm X is Transcutaneous Acupuncture (TCA), which is a micro-needling technology that creates micro-channels in the skin. These micro-channels stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which are two proteins that are essential for maintaining the strength and elasticity of the skin.
The micro-channels also allow the TCA to penetrate deeper into the skin, where it can stimulate the cells that produce the basement membrane. This helps to strengthen the basement membrane and improve its function, which can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging.
Frequently Asked Questions About Pulsed RF Microneedling Treatment
Before the melasma treatment, our therapist will apply a layer of numbing cream to your skin. The micro-needles are then introduced into your skin during the treatment. You will feel some mild discomfort, but this is very tolerable compared to other micro-needling treatments as Sylfirm X introduces the needles gently into the skin.After the procedure, your doctor may order some post-treatment care to cool the skin and reduce any inflammation.
You can expect your skin to remain slightly red and inflamed but these side effects should be resolved in 2-3 days. Most people are able to go about their usual daily activities after the treatment. Your doctor may prescribe some cream to soothe the skin more quickly. You should also apply some light moisturizer to aid in the recovery.
Stubborn pigments such as age spots and melasma will be visibly reduced.
You can also expect to see fewer wrinkles and fine lines on the skin because of the straightening of the deep layers of the skin, as well as brighter and tighter skin after several treatments.
Sylfirm also improves skin redness and broken capillaries. If you suffer from rosacea, you will find your skin less reactive, with less facial flushing and acne outbreaks.
It depends on the severity of your skin condition. You should be able to see some noticeable improvement after 1 session. In many cases, the doctor may advise you to repeat this melasma treatment 2-3 more times with an interval of 4 weeks to achieve better, longer-lasting results.
Yes, sun exposure can trigger melasma because the pigment cells in the skin responsible for producing colour in the skin are stimulated by UV rays from the sun. As such, it is essential to wear sunscreen and other sun protection measures and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
