Cast of Crazy Rich Asians: Improving Appearance Beyond Fashion

Unless you have been living under a rock the past couple of weeks, you should have heard of Crazy Rich Asians, the new American romantic comedy-drama film that features an all-Asian cast since The Joy Luck Club in 1993.

Within 4 weeks of its opening, Crazy Rich Asians has grossed more than US$90 million worldwide. The film achieved critical acclaim because of its exceptional ensemble cast that delivered a great film, allowing it to take a big step forward for screen representation by an all-Asian cast.

Hollywood hardly ever casts Asians as their leading actors because they see Asians as being less attractive than their western counterparts. Looking at the cast of Crazy Rich Asians, it is evident that Asians exude a unique combination of confidence and poise that is an attractive trait in a person. Although many Asians may not possess the universal standard of beauty dominated by western ideals, minor changes can be made to improve physical appearance.

We talk to Dr. Siew Tuck Wah, Medical Director of Radium Medical Aesthetics, as he handpicks some stars of Crazy Rich Asians and gives us his insights into improving their facial features.

Awkwafina is an American rapper and actress, who was born to a Chinese American father and a South Korean mother.

She has impeccable style and looks fabulous most of the time. She has rounded, defined cheeks, giving her good volume on the face. She has great proportions and a killer jawline, not forgetting her flawless, porcelain skin.

WHAT SHE CAN DO Awkwafina has a broad face, possibly due to her lower jaw muscles (masseters). Women with a squarish face would look too masculine, making them look overweight even though they may not be. Masseters can be overdeveloped due to the involuntary grinding of teeth at night during sleep or chewing of food.

Botox facial slimming can reduce the size of her masseters. Botox is a neurotoxin that temporarily reduces the action of the muscles. It is a simple procedure to give patients a slimmer, V-shaped face without having to undergo surgery.

Henry Golding

Henry Golding is of mixed descent. His father is English and his mother is a Malaysian. With his striking good looks and charm, Henry is possibly the first – but hopefully not the last – leading Asian man in a Hollywood production. He has a great facial proportion, a well-defined nose, and a killer smile. Henry has just the right amount of masculinity.

WHAT HE CAN DO At just 31 years old, Henry is already showing visible signs of aging. He does not require any facial augmentation treatment because his features are nice. He is still maintaining his facial volume well.

His crow’s feet are relatively deep. Although crow’s feet are dynamic wrinkles that appear when one smiles, they may be permanently etched at the outer corner of the eye area if the wrinkles are not addressed early. Restricting the muscle movement at the outer corner of the eyes can prolong the smoothness of the skin and delay the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Tiny, targeted doses of Botox wrinkle treatment goes a long way. By topping up Botox regularly, Henry is likely to maintain his youthful good looks for a longer time, hopefully assuming more leading roles in Hollywood films.

Michelle Yeoh

This gorgeous woman needs no introduction. At 56 years old, Michelle Yeoh is a living proof that beauty is ageless. Michelle Yeoh achieved fame in the 1990s after starring in a series of Hong Kong action films. Her popularity grew internationally when she was involved in several high profile productions such as Tomorrow Never Dies and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Michelle has a pair of well-formed cheek bones, beautiful eyes, high eye brows, full and prominent forehead. Her lower face is sharp and her jawline is well-defined. She has an oval face that frames her good looking, symmetrical features.

WHAT SHE CAN DO Michelle belongs to a category of the ‘sinkers’ where her face gradually loses volume as we age. Sinkers predominantly lose about 80% of the fatty tissue above the jawline. As evident in Michelle’s face, sinkers like her mainly lose volume at the temples and cheekbones.

Her mid-face still has very good volume. However, her temples are sunken, giving her face a hollow look. Dermal filler treatment is a great way to restore the volume around the temples.

Michelle can also benefit from Rejuran Healer treatment. It can strengthen and thicken the foundational layers of aging skin and reverse damaged or aging cells to keep the skin young and radiant.

Tan Kheng Hua

Tan Kheng Hua is a well-known actress and award-winning producer in Singapore. During an interview in 2014, she told the media that she wanted to grow old looking fit. Regular exercise and choosing her food carefully probably resulted in her good skin and youthful appearance.

WHAT SHE CAN DO Tan Kheng Hua exhibits a weakening jawline and saggy cheeks. It looks as if her skin is starting to slide away from her bone structure. On closer inspection, she has wrinkles and fine lines on her face as well, giving a good indication of her age.

She will benefit from non-surgical skin lifting treatments such as Ultherapy or thread lift. These treatments aim to stimulate new collagen production to tighten and lift the skin. With each treatment, the skin lifting results will last longer than the previous time.

She will also benefit immensely from our Total Skin Renewal Program, consisting of a potent combination of Botox, PDRN treatment, and dermal fillers. The injection is administered at strategic places to deeply rejuvenate the skin and smoothen out the wrinkles and fine lines, hiding the ravages of time from public view.

Ronny Chieng

Before the release of Crazy Rich Asians, many Singaporeans may not know much about Ronny Chieng. He is a Malaysian-born comedian and actor. Even though his facial features are more delicate than masculine, they fit rather well in his squarish face.

He fits the stereotype of an ethnic Chinese face for having small eyes, full face, and an ill-defined jawline.

WHAT HE CAN DO To boost his masculinity and improve his overall facial structure, Ronny can benefit from a treatment of chin fillers and Botox facial slimming. In particular, Radiesse, a collagen-stimulating filler, would be an excellent choice to augment Ronny’s lower face. Creating a chiseled jawline and a projected chin will make Ronny look more masculine and attractive.

Ronny can also benefit from acne scar treatment such as INFINI or CO2 skin resurfacing laser to reduce the appearance of depressed scars.

Catch Crazy Rich Asians in the cinemas now! You’ll enjoy the movie as much as we did!
