What are some latest trends or fads that Singaporean women are looking for in terms of aesthetic treatments? For the first time, Dr. Siew, Medical Director of Radium Medical Aesthetics shares with us on the common requests and skin treatments that his patients look for ranging from thread lifts to AGNES treatment.

“Singaporean women go for medical aesthetic treatments more often than they care to admit. Singaporean women are generally rather conservative with respect to medical aesthetic treatments; they are not willing to share with others freely about the treatments they undergo.” says Dr. Siew.

Non-Invasive Face Thread Lift

Times have changed. People have become more demanding and want to see immediate results with minimal downtime. Gone are the days when lifting means undergoing a facelift surgery. Complications following facelift surgery can be distressing, largely because such procedures are elective in nature. As with all surgeries, there are elements of risks that the surgeons have to mitigate. Complications include hematoma, injuries to the nerves, infection, hairline deformities, scarring etc.

“In this information age, people are getting smarter and more well-informed about the risks of surgeries and other options to achieve the same result.” says Dr. Siew. “Because of that, I am getting a lot more enquires and interests from women about non-invasive thread lift.”, he added.

In recent years, minimally-invasive thread lift procedures have emerged. Popularly known as the “lunchtime facelift”, this 45-minute procedure is done with local anaesthesia. The threads are inserted under the skin using only a fine needle. Slight pressure will be applied to push the threads upwards beneath the skin until they are taut and embedded. Immediate and visible lifting of the sagging skin can be seen after the treatment.

In addition to skin lifting capabilities, the threads continue its rejuvenating effects by stimulating collagen production over the next few months. As a result, the face will look more plump, lifted and yet natural-looking without the risks of surgical procedure.

Non-Surgical Nose Lift

Despite aging better than their caucasian counterparts, Asians often have the common problem of flat nose bridges and rounded nose tips. In the past, any form of nose augmentation requires undergoing a rhinoplasty to construct the form and aesthetically enhancing the the bridge and the tip. Just like any other surgical procedures, there are risks of infection, scarring deformity and perhaps, nasal obstruction.

Medical technology has progressed so much that nose augmentation no longer requires surgery. Non-surgical nose lift can be completed under 45-minutes by using PDO threads to raise the bridge and lift the nose tip. The best part is that the treatment will encourage collagen production and results can last for 1 year or more.

“Non-surgical nose lift is gaining popularity among my patients. When they see that they can achieve visible, beautiful results non-invasively, they were excited and jumped on the bandwagon and joined the growing group of people who augment their nose non-surgically.” says Dr. Siew.

Non-Surgical Eye Bag Removal

Signs of aging usually begin around the eyes. As we age, our eyelids begin to droop and fat accumulate under the eyes to form eye bags. In the recent past, eye bag removal has to be done surgically by making an incision to remove the excess skin and fat that makes you look tired and old. These surgical procedures typically have downtime of up to 9 days, depending on which technique the surgeon opts for.

In recent times, a new Korean technique has emerged, allowing the doctor to remove eye bags non-invasively. The 30-minute procedure involves melting the excess fat in your eye bags with micro-insulated needles that delivery radionfrequency waves. The melted fats will drain out naturally via your circulatory system. At the same time, the treatment also tightens and firms the skin under the eye area by stimulating collagen production. Downtime is also shortened to just 2-3 days.

What’s Best For Me?

“With so many different treatments made available to you, it is important to have an open and honest discussion with your doctor to determine what suits you most. Find out more about the cost, procedure involved and the downtime. Don’t be afraid to ask for his experience with the treatment and request for some before and after photos to see his skills.”, says Dr. Siew.

“Prices may vary from clinic to clinic for the same procedure. Experienced doctors with advanced training will often charge more than their less experienced counterparts. Don’t decide just based on cost alone or you may end up paying more for any correction.” says Dr. Siew. Nevertheless, the premium is a small price to pay for the ease of mind and excellent results you get after the treatment.
