What is cellulite?
Cellulite refers to the uneven, dimpled appearance of the skin, especially on the hips, thighs, and buttocks. More severe cellulite makes your skin appear visibly bumpy with areas of peaks and valleys. Although cellulite is not a serious condition that requires medical attention, living with the “orange peel” or “cottage cheese” appearance might embarrass you.
Causes of cellulite
Very little is known about the causes of cellulite. However, doctors have suggested that it involves the fatty tissue pushing up against the fibrous connective tissue under the skin. As the fat cells become bigger or accumulate over time, they push up against the skin, while the fatty deposits under the connective tissue pull them down. This creates an uneven surface or dimpling over time.
Cellulite occurs more in women
Women tend to accumulate more body fat around the thighs and hips. They also have less supportive connective tissues as compared to their male counterparts. Men’s connective tissues tend to criss-cross, enabling the fatty tissue to be largely suppressed by them. Women’s connective tissues tend to be aligned in the same direction as the fatty tissue, allowing little pockets of fatty deposits pushing up against the skin.
Hormones also seem to be a culprit in the appearance of cellulite. As women age, their bodies produce less hormones, and less blood supply flow into the thighs and hips. This also means that collagen production reduces, causing the connective tissue to weaken over time.
Effective skin tightening and cellulite treatment
Our Cellulite Treatment Programme aims to effectively reduce the uneven appearance of cellulite and to tighten the skin at the same time.
The program combines two effective non-invasive treatments – TriLipo and Shockwave Therapy.
TriLipo is a radiofrequency wave treatment that uses deep volumetric heating to destroy fat cells, increase fat metabolism, and tighten loose skin at the same time. TriLipo works by heating the fat tissue under the skin to accelerate metabolism of fat cells, resulting in the breakdown of fat cells by converting them to a liquified form. The physical action of moving the applicator also encourages lymphatic drainage.
Shockwave Therapy disrupts the fibrous tissue responsible for the uneven appearance on the skin. It is a non-invasive, non-electrical high energy sound wave that passes through the targeted area using a hand-held probe. Subjecting the cellulite to shockwave therapy, it increases the blood circulation and break down the fibrous tissue.
The combination of both treatments increases the efficacy of the treatment by manyfold, providing a highly effective mechanism to eliminate stubborn cellulite.
