STD Screening

Know Your status, know your health

As the name suggests, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are usually acquired by sexual contact. They may be passed from person to person in blood, semen, or vaginal and other bodily fluids.

STDs can also be transmitted by non-sexual contact. For example, mothers can infect their infants during pregnancy or childbirth, or through blood transfusions or shared needles.

Some STDs may not show display any symptoms. It is, therefore, important to go for regular testing, especially if you are sexually active.

What Are Some Symptoms of STDs?

As not everyone with STD may present symptoms, routine testing is highly recommended for sexually active individuals. If you are sexually active and have any concerns or questions about STDs or STIs, contact us to arrange for a consultation with our doctors.

STDs and STIs can have a wide range of symptoms, and some infections may not present any symptoms at all. Some common symptoms of STDs and STIs include:

Can STD Be Cured?

Some STDs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis, can be cured with antibiotics. However, viral STDs like herpes, HPV, and HIV cannot be cured but they can be managed with medication to control the symptoms and reduce the risk of transmission.

Can STD Be Left Untreated?

If STDs are left untreated, they can potentially cause serious long-term health problems such as infertility, chronic pelvic pain, and an increased risk of HIV infection. Some STDs such as syphilis can also cause damage to the brain, heart, and other organs if left untreated for a long time.

What To Do If I Suspect I Have An STD?

If you suspect you have an STD, it’s important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Here are some steps you should take:

  1. Get tested quickly. See a doctor and get tested to confirm if you have an STD.
  2. Inform your sexual partners. If you tested positive for an STD, inform your sexual partners so that they can get tested and treated as well.
  3. Practice safe sex. If you are sexually active, practice safe sex by using condoms to reduce the risk of transmitting or acquiring an STD.
  4. If you test positive for STD, follow the treatment plan prescribed by the doctor to cure the infection and prevent further transmission.
  5. Get restested after completing the treatment to ensure that the infection has been cured.
