Do stretch marks go away?

Stretch marks are permanent scarring of the skin. In other words, they won’t disappear completely. However, the appearance of stretch marks will improve over a long period of time from red (striae rubra) to white (straie alba).

In general, striae rubra are easier to treat because blood vessels are still present under the skin. The presence of these functioning blood vessels makes the stretch marks more responsive to treatments. On the other hand, straie alba are stretch marks that are older and are more difficult to treat.

What are the side effects and downtime?

Side effects of the treatment are usually mild in nature. You may experience pinpoint bleeding with some bruising. If your skin is sensitive, you may experience some swelling for up to 2 weeks. Most people should notice the side effects to subside within 3 to 4 days.
