Vascular Rosacea Laser Treatment

Treating Facial Redness and Rosacea with Vascular Laser

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes flushing and visible blood vessels in the face. For some people, the skin may also produce small, pus-filled bumps that may appear similar to acne. These signs may flare up for several weeks and then subside for a period of time, and the cycle continues. It is a common skin condition that can affect anyone but it’s most common in middle-aged Caucasian women. There is no permanent cure for rosacea, but there are treatments that can control flare-ups.

Signs and symptoms of rosacea

Rosacea flare-ups can be identified as the signs are prominent on the face. These signs include:

FLUSHING Rosacea can cause a persistent blushing or flushing around the mid-cheeks and nose. It is very prominent on people with fair skin.

VISIBLE VEINS The blood vessels on the face, especially around the cheeks and nose tend to be more fragile. They break more easily and become prominent, making the skin look redder than normal.

BUMPS People with rosacea may also develop tiny bumps on the face that may look like acne. These bumps sometimes contain pus and can be uncomfortable and unsightly.

SKIN INFLAMMATION People who have severe form of rosacea may notice that the affected area is tender and hot all the time.

Treating rosacea with laser

On top of standard treatments like topical creams, laser treatments are a useful adjunct therapy for addressing skin redness. Long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser penetrates the skin up to a depth of 5-6mm into the skin, providing a highly effective solution for treating many types of vascular conditions such as hemangioma, port-wine stains, spider veins, venous lakes, and angiomas.

During the treatment, the doctor applies the long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser to immediately shrink the capillaries to provide visible results. The hemoglobin in the red blood cells in these veins readily absorb the laser energy during the treatment. It causes them to break down and collapses the superficial capillaries and veins. At the same time, the laser also reduces the tiny bumps and uneven skin tone caused by rosacea.

How sessions are required to treat rosacea?

The number of sessions may vary depending on the severity of the condition. In general, doctors may recommend a programme of about 5 sessions to see long-lasting, effective results.

Is the treatment painful?

You will experience a warm, heating sensation. It is a comfortable treatment with minimal downtime.
