Ultherapy Skin Lifting Treatment

FDA-Approved Non-Invasive Skin Lifting Treatment in Singapore

Ultherapy is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses focused ultrasound to lift, tone and tighten loose skin on the brow, neck, chin and chest. It is the only non-invasive procedure cleared by United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to lift the skin on the brow, neck, chin, and décolletage. Although you may not see any radical, obvious improvement immediately after the treatment, it stimulates the production of collagen. Over the next few months, gradual tightening occurs, resulting in the lifting of the face and tightening of the skin – naturally.

Why is Ultherapy™ such a popular skin lifting treatment?

Ultherapy™ has changed the way we treat sagging skin in Singapore. Using medical-grade high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), the procedure targets the deep layers of the skin under the fat layer (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System, or SMAS) to produce skin contraction for lifting, and collagen production for long term anti-ageing effects. Ultherapy is good for skin lifting because it penetrates much deeper into the skin, stimulating collagen production. This is what has led to it increasingly becoming the procedure of choice for face lifts in Singapore and all across the rest of Asia.

How does Ultherapy work?

Unlike other skin lifting treatments such as thread lift, toxin, and dermal fillers, Ultherapy bypasses superficial skin to deliver the right amount of ultrasound energy at controlled depths and at the right, consistent temperature. By heating the tissue to 60 to 70°C, it triggers the area to stimulate new collagen growth as it has been proven that collagen growth happens at around that temperature. The ultrasound energy activates the area to commence the regenerative process to produce new collagen in the treated area. In addition, Ultherapy uses real-time ultrasound imaging to allow the doctor to see the layers of tissue they are treating. The visualisation enables the doctor to know exactly the layer he is treating to ensure the energy is safely delivered to where it will be the most beneficial. Delivering controlled, consistent heat of 60 to 70°C, Ultherapy results in immediate tissue contraction at the same depth of a surgical facelift.

Ultherapy treatment process at Radium Medical Aesthetics

We pride ourselves on taking a systematic approach in treating your skin with Ultherapy using a See, Plan, Treat protocol so that we will always achieve optimal skin-lifting outcome for you.

SEE During the initial consultation with the doctor, your doctor will first assess your skin to understand your skin texture and also find out what your areas of concern are.

The doctor will then proceed to scan your skin with a ultrasound transducer to evaluate your skin thickness on various parts of your face. This is an important and necessary step because just like everything else – everybody’s skin is different.

PLAN Your doctor will also provide pain relief medication and topical numbing cream to ensure your treatment is more comfortable.

While waiting for the pain relief medication to take effect, your doctor will plan your treatment with a face map, marking out the areas with the number of shots and the specific ultrasound energy level.

TREAT The treatment commences by delivering microfocused ultrasound with visualization to treat the deep tissue planes based on the plan that was customised for you.

Depending on which areas of the face, the doctor will closely follow the plan and alternate between 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm transducers to deliver the ultrasound energy. The three different transducers work on different layers of the skin – from superficial layers to deep foundational layers that could only be reached by surgical facelift. Only by undergoing the See, Plan, Treat protocol, you can be assured that you will get the best skin lifting result with every shot.

Benefits of Ultherapy treatment

Other than its capabilities of lifting and tightening saggy skin caused by intrinsic ageing, Ultherapy also has the following benefits:

Side effects of Ultherapy treatment

Ultherapy is a very safe treatment because it does not break the skin and no foreign object is introduced into the skin, unlike toxins or dermal fillers. It works by heating the skin to a consistent temperature of about 60-70°C throughout the treatment. As a result of applying such warm temperature on the skin, you may appear flushed immediately after the treatment. However, you can expect it to subside within a few hours.

Differences between HIFU and Ultherapy treatment in Singapore

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) and Ultherapy are commonly mistaken as the same treatment. Ultherapy is the only non-invasive procedure that has been cleared by the FDA for lifting and tightening the skin. Many HIFU machines claim that they can achieve the same result as Ultherapy, but as a fraction of the price. However, these brands are not FDA-cleared and they lack adequate clinic studies to support their claims. Ultherapy has over 50 clinical studies and 40 published peer-reviewed papers. This indicates that Ultherapy has undergone rigorous testing to provide its efficacy and safety. Copycat machines do not have real-time imaging and the doctors are not able to see clearly the areas to be treated. Complications may include discomfort during treatment and poor result. In some serious cases, patients have experienced skin burns due to poor development of HIFU machines that led to uncontrolled temperature when administered on patients.

Cost of Ultherapy treatment in Singapore

Ultherapy can be administered on different parts of the face or on the entire face and/or neck. Hence, the pricing can vary depending on the area(s) you wish to treat. For example, Ultherapy treatment for the upper face can cost between S$1,000 and S$1,500. A treatment for the full face excluding the neck can range from S$3,000 to S$4,000.

Frequently asked questions about Ultherapy treatment in Singapore

Is there any downtime involved in the Ultherapy treatment?

As the treatment is non-invasive, there is minimal to no downtime after the treatment. Some people may get hot flushes or some swelling on the face after the treatment. However, it should not last beyond a day.

Am I a suitable candidate for Ultherapy treatment in Singapore?

A good candidate for Utherapy should have mild to moderate skin laxity where the person is starting to experience early signs of ageing. Examples of areas that will benefit from Ultherapy include:

  • Eyebrow
  • Loose skin on the neck
  • Double chin
  • Lines and wrinkles on the chest

During the consultation, the doctor will assess your skin laxity and recommend the areas that are suitable for treatment using Ultherapy.

Can Ultherapy replace a surgical facelift?

While Ultherapy does not replace a surgical facelift, it is an excellent option for people who are not willing to undergo a surgery. However, undergoing a surgical facelift will still be the best option for patients with heavy, bulky skin with severe skin laxity.

What can I expect from my Ultherapy treatment?

The regenerative process begins as soon as the treatment is administered, so some subtle lifting may be seen immediately after the treatment. However, the full effects of the treatment will take about 2-3 months as it takes time to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. Although results may vary, patients have reported lifting and toning of the skin, brow elevation for bigger, youthful eyes, improved skin texture, tighter and firmer skin.

Is Ultherapy treatment painful?

Due to exposure to high heat, Ultherapy treatment can cause some discomfort and pain. However, the pain is an indication that the collagen stimulation process has begun. In order to minimise the pain and make the treatment process more comfortable, your doctor should discuss with you to understand your pain threshold and then administer the pain medication prior the treatment.

How long does an Ultherapy session last?

Depending on the area(s) to be treated, the procedure may take between 30 and 60 minutes.
