Non-Surgical Laser Fat Reduction for Localised Fat

SculpSure is a non-invasive laser-based body contouring treatment designed to reduce selected areas of subcutaneous fat without surgery.

It uses a 1060 nm diode laser to deliver controlled heat to the fat layer beneath the skin. The treatment is intended for body contouring rather than overall weight loss and is generally more suitable for patients who are relatively close to their preferred weight but continue to have localised fat deposits.

SculpSure has received FDA clearance for non-invasive lipolysis in areas including the abdomen, flanks, back and thighs in suitable patients.

For a broader comparison of fat reduction and body-shaping treatments, read our guide to Body Contouring in Singapore.

How Does SculpSure Work?

SculpSure uses controlled laser energy to heat the layer of fat beneath the skin.

The 1060 nm wavelength is delivered through applicators placed over the treatment area. The thermal effect disrupts selected fat cells while the treatment system also incorporates cooling to help maintain comfort at the skin surface. FDA documentation describes the technology as heat-assisted laser lipolysis using a 1060 nm diode laser.

Following treatment, the affected fat cells are gradually processed by the body over time.

The result develops progressively rather than immediately.

What Areas Can SculpSure Treat?

Depending on the applicator and patient suitability, SculpSure may be used on areas such as:

  • abdomen
  • flanks or “love handles”
  • back
  • inner thighs
  • outer thighs
  • submental area beneath the chin

The appropriate treatment area should be assessed according to the amount and distribution of subcutaneous fat.

SculpSure vs Fat Freezing

SculpSure and fat freezing both target localised subcutaneous fat but use different mechanisms.

SculpSure uses controlled laser-generated heat.

Fat freezing, or cryolipolysis, uses controlled cooling.

Neither treatment is intended as a substitute for overall weight loss. The choice between them depends on the treatment area, fat distribution, individual preference and suitability.

SculpSure vs EmSculpt Neo

These treatments are designed with different priorities.

SculpSure is primarily a laser-based fat-reduction treatment.

EmSculpt Neo combines muscle stimulation with radiofrequency energy and is more commonly considered where muscle tone and body definition are also treatment goals.

Patients whose main concern is localised fat may therefore have different treatment needs from patients seeking improved muscle definition.

What Happens During a SculpSure Treatment?

Applicators are positioned over the selected treatment area and secured in place.

The device then delivers controlled laser energy into the underlying fat layer. Patients may feel alternating sensations of warmth and cooling during treatment.

A typical treatment session may take around 25 minutes for a selected treatment area, although the overall appointment time depends on the number of areas being treated. The manufacturer describes a 25-minute treatment cycle.

Can SculpSure Help Me Lose Weight?

SculpSure is not designed primarily for weight loss.

The treatment is intended to reduce visible localised fat deposits and improve body contour.

Patients may notice a change in shape without a significant change on the weighing scale.

Can SculpSure Treat Visceral Fat?

SculpSure targets subcutaneous fat, which is the fat located beneath the skin.

It is not intended to directly treat deeper visceral fat surrounding the internal organs.

Patients concerned about visceral fat, metabolic health or overall weight reduction should discuss broader weight-management strategies.

Can SculpSure Tighten Loose Skin?

SculpSure should primarily be positioned as a fat-reduction treatment.

Patients whose main concern is skin laxity may be better suited to a treatment specifically designed for skin tightening.

This should be assessed separately from fat reduction.

Frequently asked questions about SculpSure in Singapore

Is SculpSure suitable for men and women?

Yes, selected men and women may be suitable for treatment depending on the amount and location of subcutaneous fat.

Is SculpSure suitable for belly fat?

It may be considered for localised subcutaneous fat on the abdomen.

It is not intended to treat obesity or deeper visceral fat.

Can SculpSure treat love handles?

Yes, the flanks are one of the commonly treated areas.

Is SculpSure better than fat freezing?

Neither treatment is universally better.
One uses controlled heat and the other controlled cooling. Suitability depends on the treatment area and patient preference.

Will the fat come back?

Treated fat cells are reduced, but remaining fat cells can still enlarge if weight increases.

Maintaining a stable weight is therefore important.

How long does a treatment take?

A treatment cycle is typically around 25 minutes for a selected area.

Can SculpSure replace liposuction?

No.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure capable of removing larger volumes of fat.

SculpSure is intended for more modest non-surgical body contouring.

Is There Downtime?

SculpSure is non-surgical, so recovery is generally limited.

Temporary effects may include tenderness, redness, swelling or sensitivity in the treated area.

Most patients can return to normal daily activities relatively quickly.

When Will I See Results?

Changes develop gradually as the treated fat cells are processed by the body.
The manufacturer reports that some patients begin noticing changes from around six weeks, with further improvement developing over the following months.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

Some patients may undergo one treatment, while others may require additional sessions depending on the amount of localised fat and the desired degree of contouring.

The treatment plan should be based on the treatment area and individual response rather than assuming the same number of sessions for everyone.

Are SculpSure Results Permanent?

Fat cells disrupted by treatment do not behave like untreated fat cells in the same area.

However, remaining fat cells can still enlarge if body weight increases.

Maintaining a relatively stable weight and healthy lifestyle is therefore important for preserving the overall contour over time.

SculpSure at Radium Medical Aesthetics

At Radium Medical Aesthetics, SculpSure may be considered for selected patients who want to reduce localised areas of subcutaneous fat without surgery.

Treatment begins with assessment of the treatment area, fat distribution, body composition and individual goals.

Where appropriate, SculpSure may be used alone or as part of a broader body-contouring plan.
