Fat Freeze Treatment
Eliminate Stubborn Fats Effectively
Fat freezing treatment in Singapore is commonly chosen by people who want to reduce stubborn pockets of fat without surgery, needles, or significant downtime. Also known as cryolipolysis, fat freezing works by using controlled cooling to target subcutaneous fat cells beneath the skin. These treated fat cells are gradually broken down and cleared by the body over the following weeks.
This treatment is best suited for localised fat bulges that remain despite regular exercise and a balanced diet. Common treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks or love handles, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, back fat, bra bulges, and double chin. It is not designed as a weight loss treatment, but rather as a body contouring option for people who are close to their ideal weight and want to improve the shape of specific areas.
How does fat freezing work?
Fat freeze treatment works by selectively freezing the fat tissue, without affecting the collagen and other components of the skin. It uses a controlled cooling mechanism to safely break down stubborn fat that does not seem to go away regardless of all efforts through diet and exercise.
The device consists of several probes that enables the localised reduction of fatty tissue to achieve a better body contour. When the probe is placed on the targeted area, it creates a vacuum to pull the excess skin and the fatty tissue towards the inside of the probe.
The treatment typically lasts between 35 to 60 minutes, and patients may experience mild discomfort or numbness during the procedure, but generally do not require any anesthesia or pain medication.
During the treatment session, the probe brings down the temperate of the skin and fat within the temperature range of -5 to 5°C. The exposure to the freezing temperature induces death of the subcutaneous fat cells, without affecting the superficial layer of the skin and the surrounding tissue.
Results can be seen gradually over the course of several weeks to months as the body naturally eliminates the destroyed fat cells. It’s important to note that while fat freezing can reduce the number of fat cells in a targeted area, it is not a substitute for weight loss and does not prevent the accumulation of new fat cells in other areas of the body.
What happens during fat freezing treatment?
Before the fat freezing treatment
After the assessment by the doctor or the nurse therapist, the targeted area will be demarcated using a marker. A film of gel pad will be placed on the area to protect the superficial layer of the skin to prevent burns.
In the first few minutes of the treatment, you may feel uncomfortable because of the intense cold and the suction by the probe(s). After 5 to 10 minutes into the treatment, you will likely adjust and get used to the temperature and the suction. Each treatment cycle takes about 60 minutes to complete.

Is Fat Freezing The Same As Weight Loss?
Fat freezing is not the same as weight loss. When you lose weight through diet, exercise, or medical weight management, the fat cells in your body generally shrink in size. With fat freezing, the aim is to reduce the number of fat cells in a specific treated area.
This means fat freezing is better suited for body contouring rather than overall weight reduction. It may help improve the appearance of stubborn fat bulges, but it will not significantly reduce body weight or replace a healthy lifestyle. For patients with general weight concerns, a doctor may recommend combining fat freezing with lifestyle changes, medical weight management, or other body contouring treatments depending on the individual’s needs.
Common Areas Treated with Fat Freezing
Fat freezing can be used on several areas where pinchable fat tends to accumulate. During consultation, the doctor or trained therapist will assess whether the fat layer is suitable for treatment and whether the applicator can be positioned safely and effectively.
ABDOMEN The abdomen is one of the most common areas for fat freezing, especially for people who struggle with lower belly fat or a soft bulge around the midsection. It may be suitable for patients who are not looking for surgery but want a more contoured abdominal profile.
LOVE HANDLES AND FLANKS Fat freezing may help reduce stubborn fat at the sides of the waist, commonly known as love handles. This area can be resistant to exercise, especially when fat distribution is influenced by genetics, age, or lifestyle.
INNER AND OUTER THIGHS The inner and outer thighs are commonly treated to improve lower body contour. Fat freezing may be useful for patients who notice localised fat deposits around the thighs despite maintaining an active routine.
UPPER ARMS Fat freezing can be considered for soft, pinchable fat around the upper arms. However, if the main concern is loose skin rather than excess fat, other skin tightening treatments may be more suitable.
BACK FAT AND BRA BULGES Fat pockets around the upper or lower back may create visible bulges under fitted clothing. Fat freezing can help target these localised areas when the fat is suitable for applicator placement.
DOUBLE CHIN For suitable patients, fat freezing can also be used to target submental fat, commonly known as a double chin. A consultation is important to determine whether the concern is due to fat, skin laxity, jaw structure, or a combination of factors.
When Will I See Results from Fat Freezing?
Fat freezing results are gradual because the body needs time to clear the treated fat cells naturally. Some patients may start to notice changes after a few weeks, with more visible improvement typically developing over the next two to four months.
The treated area may feel slightly firm, numb, swollen, or tender immediately after the session, but these effects are usually temporary. As the fat layer gradually reduces, the treated area may look more contoured and less bulky. Results vary depending on the treatment area, fat thickness, number of cycles performed, lifestyle, and individual body response.
How Many Fat Freezing Sessions Do I Need?
The number of fat freezing sessions needed depends on the size of the treatment area, the amount of fat present, the desired degree of contouring, and how the body responds after treatment. Some patients may be satisfied after one session, while others may benefit from a series of treatments.
In general, patients with smaller pockets of fat may require fewer sessions, while larger areas such as the abdomen, thighs, or flanks may need more than one cycle or repeated sessions for better contouring. During consultation, the treatment plan will be customised based on your body shape, fat distribution, and realistic goals.
Fat Freezing vs Liposuction: What Is the Difference?
Fat freezing and liposuction both aim to reduce unwanted fat, but they are very different treatments.
Fat freezing is non-surgical and does not involve incisions, stitches, or anaesthesia. It is suitable for patients who prefer a gradual, lower-downtime approach to reducing small to moderate pockets of stubborn fat. Results develop progressively as the body clears the treated fat cells.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that physically removes fat from the body. It may be more suitable for patients who want a more dramatic reduction in fat volume, but it involves surgery, recovery time, and surgical risks.
For patients who are not ready for surgery and want a more natural-looking, gradual change, fat freezing may be a suitable non-invasive body contouring option.
Frequently asked questions about fat freezing treatment in Singapore
Fat freeze treatment is a safe, comfortable treatment that is suitable for both men and women. Additionally, this procedure is ideal for:
- People who are risk-averse and are keen to avoid surgery
- People who are moderately fat with smaller fatty deposits to get rid of
- People who have undergone liposuction and would like to treat residual fatty tissue
- People with a moderate amount of fat at the areas of concern such as abdomen, love handles, double chin, inner and outer thighs, arms and flanks
- People with stubborn pockets of fat that cannot seem to go away with diet and exercise
Fat freezing may not be suitable for everyone. It is generally not recommended for patients who are pregnant, have certain cold-related medical conditions, have significant skin laxity in the treatment area, or are looking for major weight loss.
It may also be less suitable if the concern is mainly loose skin, poor muscle tone, bloating, visceral fat, or general weight gain rather than localised pinchable fat. In such cases, other treatments such as Ultherapy Prime for skin tightening, muscle toning, weight management, or a combination approach may be more appropriate.
A proper consultation is important to assess whether fat freezing is the right treatment for your concern.
You can expect to experience some or all of these mild side effects, such as:
- Temporary skin redness
- Numbness or dull pain at the treatment side
- Mild swelling and bruising may occur in some people
There is little to no downtime after a fat freezing treatment. In most cases, patients can resume their regular day-to-day activities immediately after the treatment.
Cryolipolysis is not an effective way to reduce overall weight loss. It is particularly useful if you have tried diet and exercise but haven’t been able to get rid of the excess, stubborn fat bulges on certain areas of the body. Only by incorporating fat freezing treatment with regular exercise and a strict diet, you will be able to achieve overall weight loss, including stubborn fat bulges.
It depends on several factors such as the amount of excess fat, your dietary habits and lifestyle. In general, we recommend between 1 and 3 sessions per area to see visible, long-lasting results.
Fat freeze treatment is typically charged by area. One area is priced at about S$500.
