FUE Hair Transplant

Long-Lasting Result for Treating hair loss in Men and women

Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE is a technique for treating hair loss in both men and women. If hair thinning or going bald bothers you, speak to one of our doctors to find out if you are a suitable candidate for FUE hair transplant.

Despite several other hair loss treatment options available in Singapore, FUE hair transplant remains one of the most popular hair loss treatments as the success rate is high.

What is FUE hair transplant?

It is a type of surgery that moves hair from places you have abundance of to fill an area with thin or no hair. For FUE hair transplant, the nurse will first shave the donor site, typically the back of your scalp as it is most resistant to hair loss. Then, the doctor will remove the hair follicles one by one. Once the doctor has harvested enough hair follicles, the nurse will bandage the donor site which now has many small dots. Over time, your existing hair will grow out and cover the donor site. At this time, the nurse will prepare the graft for the doctor to plant into the recipient site. The doctor then cleans and numbs the recipient site and creates tiny holes with a needle. With the help of the nurse, the team will delicately place the graft into each hole.

How long does FUE hair transplant take?

Depending on the number of grafts you are getting, the process can take about 4 to 10 hours. It is a time-consuming procedure so you need to make sure you dedicate your entire day to this procedure if you wish to proceed with the treatment.

Can hair transplant be performed on other areas other than the scalp?

Absolutely. In fact, hair transplant procedure is so versatile that it can be performed on mustache, beards, sideburns, goatee, and eyebrows. Hair transplant can also be performed to conceal unsightly scars on the face or scalp.

What is the post-treatment recovery process like?

After the long surgery, both the donor and recipient sites will be very tender. You may be required to take pain relief medications for a few days. In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed to you too. You will have to wear bandages over both sites for a day or two. We encourage you to take a few days off work. You should be able to return to work about 3 to 5 days after the procedure.

Why does my transplanted hair fall out?

Don’t be alarmed. It is perfectly normal for the transplanted hair to fall out after 2 to 3 weeks post-surgery. You will start to notice fine hair growing out from the follicles after 3 months.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Most cases of hair transplant surgeries should make a full recovery without any side effects. No surgery is risk-free. Some people may experience the following common side effects:

  • Crusting or pus drainage around surgical sites
  • Pain, itch or swelling of the surgical sites
  • Inflammation of hair follicles
  • Bleeding

Although common, these side effects can be minimised with excellent care from the healthcare team here at Radium Medical Aesthetics.

What is the success rate of FUE Hair Transplant?

Reputable and experienced hair transplant doctors report FUE hair restoration success rate of more than 90%. This means that the grafts that are transplanted from the donor area into the recipient area remain in good condition for several years.
