Genius Acne Scar Removal Programme
Intelligent RF System for Acne Scar Removal Treatment
Genius RadioFrequency (RF) micro-needling technology combines fractional RF energy with microneedling to stimulate the skin’s collagen and elastin production, plumping up areas of skin indentation to make depressed acne scars less visible. It works by creating controlled micro-puncture wounds on the skin’s surface, which acts as delivery channels for fractional RF heat to deliver into the skin using 49 microscopic needles.
These ultrafine needles safely penetrate the skin to a specific depth, allowing the RF energy to bypass the superficial layer of the skin and target the deep dermis.
Genius: Real-time adapation of power and pulse
In December 2018, Genius obtained FDA clearance for skin rejuvenation. Genius uses ultrafine needles to induce controlled damage to the skin. By using ultrafine needles, it induces less superficial damage to the skin, reducing the discomfort and downtime often associated with micro-needling treatments.
Genius uses an intelligent handpiece which analyses the skin before it delivers the shot, allowing for real-time adaptation of power and pulse duration to account for varying skin thickness and texture. By delivering each shot with customized precision, you can expect the result to be more impressive and long-lasting as compared to other types of microneedling treatments.
What are the benefits of Genius RF treatment?
How long does the treatment take?
Can Genius be combined with other scar removal treatments?
Yes. Genius RF microneedling can often be combined with other scar treatments as part of a personalised acne scar or skin texture improvement plan.
Acne scars are not all the same. Some patients may have depressed scars, rolling scars, boxcar scars, ice-pick scars, post-inflammatory marks, enlarged pores, uneven texture, or a combination of concerns. Because different scar types respond better to different treatment methods, combining treatments may sometimes give a more comprehensive improvement than using one treatment alone.
Depending on the scar type and skin condition, Genius may be combined with treatments such as subcision, fractional CO2 laser, pico laser, chemical peels, skinboosters, PN/PDRN injectables, or other collagen-stimulating treatments. Genius works by delivering radiofrequency energy through fine microneedles into the deeper layers of the skin, helping to stimulate collagen remodelling and improve skin firmness and texture over time.
The exact combination and treatment sequence will depend on your skin type, scar severity, downtime tolerance, and treatment goals. A doctor’s assessment is important to determine which treatments are suitable, how they should be spaced, and whether they can be performed on the same day or in separate sessions.
How many sessions are required?
For Genius RF microneedling, the number of sessions required depends on the type and severity of scars, skin condition, treatment area, and how your skin responds to collagen remodelling.
In general, most patients may require a series of 3 to 5 sessions, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart, for more noticeable improvement in acne scars, uneven texture, and enlarged pores. Mild textural concerns may require fewer sessions, while deeper or more established scars may need more sessions or a combination approach with other scar treatments such as subcision, CO2 laser, pico laser, or regenerative injectables.
Results are gradual, as Genius works by stimulating collagen production and skin remodelling over time. Some improvement may be seen after the initial sessions, but more visible changes usually develop progressively over the next few months. A doctor’s assessment is recommended to determine the most suitable number of sessions and treatment plan based on your scar type and skin goals.
What are the side effects and downtime?
For Genius RF microneedling, downtime is usually mild to moderate and depends on the treatment intensity, skin sensitivity, treatment area, and individual healing response.
Common side effects may include redness, swelling, warmth, tenderness, tightness, mild pinpoint bleeding, or tiny scabs over the treated area. The skin may feel sensitive or slightly rough for a few days as it heals. These effects are usually temporary and often improve within 2 to 5 days, although redness or sensitivity may last slightly longer in some patients.
Less common side effects may include bruising, prolonged redness, infection, acne flare, pigmentation changes, or temporary track marks, especially if aftercare instructions are not followed or if the skin is exposed to excessive sun too soon after treatment.
Most patients can return to normal daily activities shortly after treatment, but it is usually advisable to avoid strenuous exercise, sauna, swimming, alcohol, harsh skincare, exfoliating acids, retinoids, and direct sun exposure for the first few days. Proper moisturising, sun protection, and post-treatment care are important to support healing and reduce the risk of irritation or pigmentation.
